Background Reviews

Starting in March 2012, Ricoh released a series of MFPs, “02” and “03” series, which were favored by large and medium-sized enterprises. In June 2016, Ricoh launched the new series of machines, “04” series (MP C2004/2504/3004/3504/4504/5504/6004). OEM consumables and chips can be used normally in the new and old machines, but the replacement chips on the market were not compatible at that time. In the same year, the SP C840/841/842 series were released in Japan, the United States and other regions. Also there is a similar firmware upgrade problem to the "04" series. For an increasing tendency of firmware upgrade, a better replacement chip solution is needed in the aftermarket.

Apex Chip

It was discovered that only ASIC-designed chips, which use complete function emulation, can possess a stronger firmware-resistance. Apex has decided to develop new replacement chips with an ASIC design and provide customers with the more stable and secure chip solutions. The features of the new replacement chips are as below:
